KS1 & KS2 Parent Workshop

KS1 Mental Maths Workshop

 Thursday 5th October 2017

 

Thank you to all the parents who came to our workshop today for           Key Stage 1 Mental Maths. We hope you found it useful hearing about the KS1 curriculum requirements and feel as though you can support your children with this at home. We hope you enjoyed some of the different games and songs that we use in school to help teach the mental maths objectives. We look forward to hearing from the children how often they have been singing these songs at home too! Please find attached the presentation slides used in the session, outlining what your child needs to know, examples of how we teach Mental Maths and some handy resources for you to use at home to support your child’s learning! As we mentioned in the workshop please do not hesitate to speak to your child's class teacher should you need some further ideas on how to practice these skills with your children at home.

Year 1 Phonics Workshop & Test

Thank you very much to the parents who attended the Year 1 phonics workshop today. We hope you found it beneficial to hear more about how we teach the children to read and write at school. It was wonderful to share with you how the phonics screening check works and what we do each day in school to prepare your child and develop their reading and writing skills. The children really enjoyed playing phonics games with you and showing of their independent skills. Below are the presentation slides that were used in the session outlining: the format of the assessment, phonics phases and useful resources to support your child at home. Please also make use of the handy hint parent guide to answer any questions you may have. As always, if you have any further questions please don't hesitate to speak to your child's class teacher.

KS1 Reading Comprehension

Thank you to all the parents who came to our workshop today for             Key Stage 1 Reading Comprehension. We hope it was useful to share the KS1 curriculum requirements with you. Please find attached the presentation slides used in the session, outlining what the KS1 expected standard in reading looks like, as well as some questions and strategies you can use at home to develop your child's reading further.

KS1 Grammar & Punctuation Workshop

Thank you to all of the parents who attended the KS1 workshop today focused on Grammar and Punctuation in KS1. We hope that you found the session informative and it helped to develop your understanding of what is expected from your child in Year 1 and 2. The children really enjoyed showing off their skills when playing SPaG games with you in the classrooms. We have uploaded the slides from the session below alongside the grammar and punctuation books you can use to practice with the children at home. We hope the slides inform you of the curriculum requirements, how your child is taught in school and how you can best support them at home. As mentioned in the workshop please do not hesitate to talk to your child's class teacher should you have any questions regarding the materials and how to support your child. Once again thank you for your ongoing support.

KS1 Maths Method

It was lovely to see so many parents form KS1 at the parent workshop today! We hope that you found the session informative and feel you have developed an understanding of the Maths methods we use in school. It was good to discuss how children will progress from concrete resources, to pictures, to abstracts methods as they move through their Maths skills. We have uploaded the presentation below that details the Year 1 and 2 curriculum expectations and references strategies children can use to solve these problems. As we mentioned in the workshop, please do not hesitate to contact your child's class teacher should you need any extra information on how to further support your child at home. 
Year 1 Phase 5 Phonics Workshop and Test

Thank you for joining us at our phonics workshop today. We hope you found the information on the trickier phonic sounds useful. It was lovely to see the children showing you how fantastic they are at playing the phonics games in the classroom.  We have attached the presentation below as well as the FAQ booklet regarding the phonics test. Please make sure you familiarise yourself with this information. Remember you can use the booklets at home with the children and they can use dots and dashes to help them to decode the words. The phonics test will be administered week beginning Monday 11th June. 

KS2 Addition and Subtraction

Thank you to all the parents who came to our Addition and Subtraction Maths workshop. We hope it gave you lots of information as to the different methods taught within school. Place value really is key in children becoming fluent in these strategies, so any additional support with this and the methods discussed today would be really beneficial to your child. The presentation slides below recap the learning journey your child will take with us throughout their school education, with lots of examples! As mentioned, your child's class teacher will be happy to answer any further questions

 

KS2 Multiplication and Division

Thank you to all the parents who came to our Multiplication and Division Maths workshop. We hope it gave you some helpful strategies and understanding into how you can support your children at home. These will be skills your children will be learning towards the end of this half term and into January. Please find the presentation slides below, which outline the different methods used to teach both multiplication and division throughout your child's journey at school.  If you have any questions, or would like to talk through any of the methods again, please don't hesitate to speak to you child's class teacher. 

 

Our next workshop will be on Thursday 30th November at 3:30pm and will be focused on Reading.
