Mansel Park visit to Saints training ground!

On Wednesday 12th April 2017 12 KS2 students had the opportunity to visit and participate in a variety of actives at the ‘Saints Connect Training Ground Event’ at Staplewood Training Ground, Marchwood.

This event was part of an opportunity for Sports Leaders from various Secondary Schools around Southampton to deliver multi-sports activities such as Dodgeball, Football & Fitness stations to Primary School children as part of their leadership award.

We had a fantastic day and even saw the 1st team training but we are sworn to secrecy about any tactics we saw/heard. We also had a tour around the training ground and bumped into some of the academy teams.

The children who represented Mansel Park were; Katie Pitman – Davies, Sophia Coombes, Morgan Mcmahon – Davies, Ama Mboue, Louis Wiseman, Joshua Edwards, Lewis Mitchell, Henry Traves, Dylan Heider, Falicia Mukasa, Ruby Niblock and Joe shelley.

Mansel Park CORRECT PE kit.

This term a correct PE kit reward system was launched along with the help of the sports coaches from Testlands and KiddiActive.

The idea is that children will receive a 'point' each time they bring their CORRECT PE kit for their PE lesson. This is recorded on a chart and updated each PE lesson. Every child is allowed ONE oops if they forget their kit or if they are not in the correct kit.

At the end of the term, points will be totalled up and children will receive a PE session of their choice.

To encourage team work, if children have not used their oops during the term then they can give their oops to someone who may have had a few oops weeks so everyone will hopefully earn a reward!

Secondly (and still outside!) the children had 15 minutes to complete as man laps of the cross country running course, which went all around the school grounds. Finally (this time in the warm!) children had to compete in a beep test, the higher the level they reached, the higher the points we received. There was a personal best reached by Brayden Shirley who made it to level 18.3 on the test! Team Mansel reached 2nd place!!

A huge well done to all candidates, who were of a high standard, the decision was not easy as all were more than capable of fulfilling the sports candidate role.

A group of year 5 children, from both Toucan and Parrot Classes, applied to be a Mansel Park Sports Ambassador.

Children, who had applied for the role by completing an application form, attended a special selection morning at Newlands Primary school, where they had to participate in team building activities and read a short speech as to why they would be a good sports ambassador and who their sporting inspiration is.
