What is therapeutic story writing?
Therapeutic story writing is an intervention which children access for a short period of time (8-10 weeks). The idea is that children explore aspects of the 'self' through metaphors in their writing.
What does therapeutic story writing look like at Mansel Park Primary School?
Here at Mansel Park Primary School we have run groups and individual sessions depending on the child. We have found that as well as supporting children in exploring concepts about themselves and problems they may have had, it has also really created a love of writing.
Why might my child be asked to join a therapeutic story writing group?
Children are selected for this group for many different reasons including: low self-esteem, going through a bereavement, struggling with situations on the playground etc.
The group is really supportive in thinking about coping strategies and provides a safe platform to share thoughts and feelings.
