Year R Blog – Autumn 1 – Week 4

Morning rotations

In Year R we have been very busy. The children have settled in to Mansel Park Primary School very well and are following the school rules of being ‘Ready, Respectful, and Safe’. They have had great fun playing with old friends and getting to know new friends.

We have been learning about counting this week. We have been singing number nursery rhymes like ‘1,2,3,4,5 once I caught a fish alive’ to help us count by rote. To be successful counting objects we learned to: ‘touch it, move it, say it.” We have applied our counting skills to real-life scenarios such as counting out biscuits for a teddy bears picnic, counting eggs laid on a farm to sell and counting pennies to see if we have enough money for an ice cream at the shop.

We have also used our counting skills in our ‘Busy Bee’ child-initiated learning time. We have counted blocks out to use to build towers, sofas and bridges, counted the cakes in baking trays in our mud kitchen and counted the fish we caught from the water tray. We have also been counting our money to pay for items at the shop and exploring numbers in the environment.

We can’t wait to learn more next week and apply it in lots of different ways.
