Year 1 Parent and Child Workshop

Year 1 parents and pupils enjoyed a Pip and Pap Phonics workshop together yesterday, reading Pink Phase story"The Queen's Crown."

This story recapped grapheme-phoneme correspondences that pupils have previously met, including a special focus on trigraphs such as ure, eer, ear, tch and air. Pupils read sentences such as "Claps and cheers fill the air," "Ensure you do not come too near," and " and "The King and Queen appear on a float!" They answered comprehension questions linked to vocabulary, retrieval, inference, sequencing and prediction skills, as well as making links to other texts they have read.

In this story, the Queen gives Tisp her crown! Pupils and parents made their own crowns together - don't they look splendid?

We run Pip and Pap Parent Workshops every two weeks at Mansel Park, to support with phonics and comprehension skills. Please ask your child's class teacher for more details, all are welcome!
