Welcome to the Penguins and Dolphins Class Page
Little Red comes to Millbrook!
This half term, we have written our own version of a fairy tale. In our stories, Little Red Riding Hood is walking from Millbrook Towers to McDonalds! To help us do this, we have been looking at maps and aerial photographs of the area. We went out onto the fields and practised giving our partner instructions using mathematical language like 'clockwise', 'anticlockwise', 'quarter turn', 'half turn' and 'three quarter turn'. Next, we will be writing instructions for Little Red to follow on the journey through Millbrook.
Christmas!
Christmas is fast approaching and we are starting to work on the KS1 Christmas Production. On Friday, the children were given lines to practise at home. Please help your child to practise these.
More information about times of the performances will be sent out shortly.
If you have any questions about the Christmas play, please speak to a member of the Year 2 team.
Spellings and Phonics
The children have been working really hard in class on their spellings and phonics. This half term we have started sending some work home to help them even more!
On a Friday, the children will be given a 'Phonics Round Up' which recaps all the phonics that they have learnt over the week. Please support your child in completing this and they can bring it into school to show off all their hard work!
On a Monday, we will be sending home some spellings sheets to practise. These are really simple to use - just follow the instructions at the top! On a Friday we will then see how many we can remember in class.
Thank you for your support with your child's learning!
Harvest
As part of our Harvest topic we made some harvest bread rolls. We then used commands (bossy verbs!) to write some instructions telling other people how to make the rolls. Here are some pictures of us making the rolls.
Marwell Trip
This half term our topic is safari. As part of this topic, we went on a trip to Marwell to see some of the animals. It was a great day, we took part in a workshop about the animals and we saw all the amazing animals at Marwell.
Come to our Year 2 assembly on 14th July to find out more about what we have learnt.
Here are some of the photos from the trip.
Year 2 Celebration Picnic
Year 2 did such an amazing job during their SATs that we decided to have a celebration picnic. During the week, we made ice lollies using frozen fruit and blackcurrant squash. We put them in the freezer and then had a delicious treat at our picnic!
Well done Year 2! We are very proud of you, thank you for all of your hard work.
Year 2 SATs
Year 2 SATs are happening from May 9th to May 19th.
Please make sure your child is in school on time, having had a good nights sleep and a healthy breakfast. We are sure all of our pupils are going to be amazing!
Here is the presentation from the Parent Briefing on May 4th.
Home Learning Project
Thank you to everyone who came to our home learning project exhibition. All the projects looked amazing! Now we are writing stories about the characters we have made and will read them to our Year R partners.
Sustainability Day
On 7th March, we had a whole day learning about sustainability. We had lots of different activities including designing our own bike, listening to a story about an apple tree and having a go at sorting recycling.
Awesome Authors
Our topic this half term is Awesome Authors and we are writing our own stories for Year R. We all have a partner in Year R and we are writing a story for them. Here are some pictures of us working with our partners.
World Book Day
On 3rd March we celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as our favourite book characters. Here are some pictures of us!
Puppets
We wrote alternative versions of 'The Three Little Pigs' and in DT we made puppets to go with our stories. We had to sew the puppet together and then stuck on the different coloured felt.
Visit from a Storyteller
We were so lucky to have a visit from a storyteller to help us when we write our own stories about the Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig. He told us lots of exciting stories such as an alternative version of Cinderella and the story of the terrifying wazzock. We had so much fun listening to and joining in with his amazing stories!
No Lates Reward Event
We had a special treat for all of the children who were on time every day last half term. We all wore our pyjamas, had some biscuits and hot chocolate and read some stories together. We also had some special guests as some of us brought along some little friends from home!
Nativity
Thank you so much to everyone who came to our KS1 Nativity. We all worked so hard learning lines and songs and we had great fun performing it. We hope you enjoyed it too!
Enterprise Week
We were really busy during Enterprise Week making pots for our stall at the Christmas Fair. We made some snowman and reindeer pots and we think that they look fantastic! Here is a picture of some of them:
RE Day
In November, we had an RE day all about angels. We learnt so much about angels as we played games, listened to stories and then we chose a Bible story about angels and made a collage of it.
Visit from the Fire Service
We had a visit from the Fire and Rescue Service to help us learn how to stay safe. We learnt about keeping safe on the road and all about fire safety. We were able to go inside a fire engine and use the hose!
Here are some pictures of us exploring the fire engine.
25th September 2015
This half term, our topic is James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl.
To start the topic, we tasted some peaches and thought of amazing adjectives to describe them.
Next week, we are going to be writing our own incredible stories based on James and the Giant Peach.
