Year 4 Blog Update – Summer Term Fun and Learning!

What a brilliant few weeks we’ve had in Year 4! The children have been working incredibly hard and immersing themselves in a wide range of topics – and we’ve been so impressed with their enthusiasm and effort.

In Writing, we’ve been captivated by the beautiful picture book The Journey, which tells the story of a refugee family forced to leave their home. The children put themselves in the shoes of the main character to write powerful and thoughtful diary entries. They’ve also been busy researchers, finding out all about refugees in preparation for creating an informative leaflet about how we can help and support people in need.

In Maths, we’ve been exploring decimals and money – two topics that link really well to everyday life! We’re now moving on to learning about time, so now’s a great chance to practise telling the time at home together – analogue and digital clocks included!

Reading has been full of giggles and gasps as we delved into Zombierella – a spooky and hilarious twist on the classic fairy tale. The children loved spotting similarities and differences between this version and the traditional Cinderella story.

Our wider curriculum has been just as exciting. In Art, we’ve taken inspiration from Matisse’s colourful collages. In Science, we’ve been classifying plants and animals like true biologists. Geography has taken us across the globe as we explore The Americas, and in RE we’ve been discussing morals, linking religious stories to well-known traditional tales.

We also had a fantastic visit from IntoUniversity, who ran a careers workshop that got everyone thinking about their future dreams – from museum curators to product designers!

As always, thank you for your continued support – we can’t wait to see what the rest of the term brings!
