Year 1 blog:
Year 1 have had a fantastic start to the week!
We kicked off the half term by noticing some peculiar clothes left in the library. Upon further investigation, we realised that the clothes belonged to a pirate who had jumped out of our story book! Once the shock had worn off, the children identified key pirate features, such as hat and cutlass. They have also worked hard to generate adjectives to describe the features to support adults in finding the escaped pirate. Fingers crossed we find him soon!
In maths, the children have been learning how to be mathematicians. They have had many problems to solve, from escaped farm animals that need to be counted to teachers who have forgotten how to count to 10 properly! They have shown persistence and determination no matter the challenge.
In our foundation subjects we have been exploring two key areas; the human body and our school.
In science, we spent time in groups labelling the human body and considering the placement of our labels. We then considered what body parts we use to help us run. We realised that there were more body parts involved than originally thought!
In geography we have been exploring our school. We have been looking closely at aerial photographs and located key areas in and around our school! We then discussed and drew our favourite places to play at school.
We are extremely proud of how well the children have settled in so far! Keep up the amazing work Year 1!
