Year R blog:
In Year R we have had a very exciting and fun first few weeks at big school! We have learnt all about the school routine, from where to put our coats and bags in the morning to learning how to use our busy bee's to support our play in the afternoon. The children have been the stars of the show as they have managed this huge transition with diligence. All of the Year R teachers have been blown away by how kind, sensible, independent and settled the children are after only a few weeks.
Our lessons have primarily focussed on number and letter recognition, shape and fine and gross motor skills. We have had lots of fun with this by writing letters and numbers in sand, exploring playdough and using a variety of creative resources to make pictures. We have continued our morning learning into busy bee time - the children have especially enjoyed painting, water and using the mud kitchen to bake a variety of pasties and cakes to sell in the role-play bakery. We have also worked a lot on emotional regulation and how to manage big feelings through stories such as the colour monster.
The children have made huge progress in the first few weeks and are looking forward to next week where we will begin learning our Orange Phase Pip and Pap sounds. We will also be beginning our topic 'All About Me' and completing self-portraits and sharing our family tree's.
