Celebrating Our Healthy High 5 GOLD Award

We are incredibly proud to share that Mansel Park Primary School has been awarded the Healthy High 5 GOLD Award.

This achievement recognises the strong, whole-school commitment to health and wellbeing that runs through everything we do. It reflects the collective effort of our pupils, staff and wider community in creating an environment where healthy lifestyles are not only encouraged, but embedded into daily school life.

During the assessment process, the reviewers were particularly impressed by the breadth of opportunities we provide for children to develop healthy habits. A key strength highlighted was our focus on outdoor learning and sustainability. Across all year groups, pupils are actively involved in growing and caring for plants, from planting flowers and vegetables to collecting seeds for future use. These experiences help children understand where food comes from, the importance of whole foods and how to care for the environment in a sustainable way.

Physical activity is also a consistent and valued part of each school day. In addition to high-quality PE lessons, pupils take part in daily outdoor activity, structured games and active play. Opportunities such as yoga, team sports and lunchtime activities supported by our Sports Coach ensure that children develop confidence, teamwork and a positive relationship with exercise.

Healthy eating is another important aspect of school life. Our meals meet national standards, and children have access to nutritious snacks throughout the day, including bread, milk and fruit. Alongside this, learning about nutrition and the human body is embedded within our curriculum, helping pupils to understand how to make informed and healthy choices.

Supporting emotional wellbeing is central to our ethos. Children benefit from regular opportunities for mindfulness and reflection, whether through calm moments in assemblies, breathing exercises in class or quiet reading time in the library. Our outdoor spaces further enhance this, allowing pupils to connect with nature and experience moments of calm within the school day.

We are also proud of our strong links with the wider community. Through coffee mornings and school events, families are able to access support and guidance from professionals such as the Mental Health Support Team, School Nurse and Speech and Language Team, strengthening our shared approach to wellbeing.

The assessors commented on the inclusive and holistic nature of our provision, as well as the opportunities for pupil voice, leadership and participation across the school. This recognition is something we are extremely proud of.

This award truly reflects a whole-school effort, and we would like to thank our families for their continued support. Together, we are helping our children to develop the knowledge, confidence and habits they need to lead healthy, balanced lives.

We look forward to celebrating this achievement with our pupils and continuing to build on this success.
