Year 6 blog:
This term in Year 6, we have been working incredibly hard across all areas of the curriculum and have achieved so much already!
In Maths, we have focused on mastering the four operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and both short and long division. This has helped to develop our confidence and accuracy through reasoning and problem-solving challenges. In English, we have written our “Architects of a Better World” pieces, celebrating our favourite people and how they have inspired us to make a difference. We used figurative language, such as similes and metaphors, and experimented with a variety of sentence structures to make our writing powerful, engaging and inspiring. In Reading, we have been enjoying our class book Boy 87 by Elle Fountain, developing our vocabulary, retrieval, and inference skills through thoughtful discussions, and we are very excited to meet the author soon!
In History, we have explored World War II, learning about the Dunkirk evacuation and the Battle of Britain, and discovering how Britain and the Allies defeated Germany.
In Science, our topic on Living Things and Their Habitats has taught us how to classify animals, plants, and microorganisms, and we even went on a nature walk around our school grounds to identify different trees using our own classification grids.
In Art, we have been learning about perspective drawing and using a range of sketching pencils to create shading and depth in our artwork.
It has been a fantastic term full of creativity, curiosity, and achievement, and we are so proud of how much we have achieved in such a short time. What a wonderful start they have made to their final year at primary school!
